Sen. Virgil Smith spent eight months in prison for shooting at his ex-wife’s car but has not lost his political aspirations. He’s officially filed to run against George Cushingberry in the 2nd District of Detroit.

Steve Hood told Fox 2 News:

“It’s Virgil’s right to run…I think it’s wrong for him to run. I think he needs to go get a job.”

Sen. Virgil Smith resigned from his senate seat prior to serving his eight month sentence. Now one week before the deadline his paperwork has been filed with the Detroit Elections Department.
