After a social media prank began to circulate about a young girl (13) committing suicide, her boyfriend (11) thought the posts were real and hung himself.
His mother walked into his room to find him hanging by the neck in his room in Marquette, Michigan. There is now an investigation happening and a prosecutor is pursuing criminal charges against a juvenile accused of being involved in the scheme.
The boy had been using a cell phone he purchased to read the texts and social media posts and decided to end his life as well. After seeing the posts about his girlfriend, Tysen replied over social media that he was going to kill himself. No one reported these posts to an adult or authorities.
The boy died on Tuesday at a Detroit-area hospital.
Authorities are currently charging the juvenile responsible for the prank with malicious use of telecommunication services and using a computer to commit a crime.
