Bonsall was hired by Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr at an annual salary of $225,000. Bonsall was put on a paid leave after asking if he would be able to shoot anyone in a hoodie if he participated in the city’s annual Angels Night patrols. In response to today’s resignation Change Agent Consortium national spokesperson David Alexander Bullock released the following statement:

“We are very happy that Jim Bonsall has resigned. Demeaning and disrespectful speech will not be tolerated by PastorDavidBullockanyone. In light of the upset around the country regarding the Trayvon Martin case, Bonsall’s comments were highly insensitive to those that heard them and to people across the country. No one should ever joke about shooting Black folks on Angels Night. Jim Bonsall’s comments offended us and there has to be a zero tolerance policy for this type of hateful language in the city of Detroit. Today’s resignation is the best thing for the city and its residents.“
