Detroit, MI – –Martin Luther King III and the Reverend Al Sharpton, founder of the National Action Network (NAN) will appear in Detroit Friday headlining a Michigan (NAN) rally “50th Anniversary of Continuation of the 1963 March” this Friday June 21, 2013. The NAN rally will start at 7 PM and also feature Reverend David Bullock and the Greater St. Matthew Baptist Church Choir.

Michigan NAN president, the Reverend Charles Williams II, says that the NAN rally will focus on the need to confront issues using direct action as needed.

“This rally is a “continuation of the spirit Martin Luther King Jr. brought to Detroit in 1963 with a clear understanding that direct action was required to bring about change as we assert our human rights and battle for civil rights,” said Williams.

“America works incessantly world-wide to inflict our brand of democracy on the world while right here in Michigan Democracy is trampled upon by an Emergency Management Act (EM) that targets Detroit and other communities of color in Michigan with a hypocritical brand of legislative arrogance not witnessed since Reconstruction”, said Reverend Williams referring to the electoral defeat of an EM in a recent Michigan state-wide election.”

Rev. Al Sharpton said “We must turn this Moment into a movement, and continue the movement that was started by many who came before us.”
