(DETROIT) – Today Rainbow Push Michigan, along with the statewide coalition Stand Up For Democracy, will ask the Michigan Court of Appeals to reduce the number of days from 42 to seven before the Michigan Board of Canvassers officially certifies the over 206,000 petitions to repeal Michigan’s Public Act 4.

“Today Rainbow PUSH Michigan and other coalition members will stand with our legal team as they file a motion to expedite the certification of our petitions so the citizens of Michigan can finally decide the fate of Public Act 4. In Michigan we face the twin evils of voter suspension and voter suppression. It is time for the Court of Appeals to uphold the law and not participate in partisan politics,” said D. Alexander Bullock.

The Michigan Court of Appeals recently decided not to convene a special panel of seven judges to decide the case of Public Act 4. That decision left the courts original opinion in place allowing for the referendum campaign to move to the ballot.
