Whole Foods Market Inc.’s co-chief executive Walter Robb, Mayor Dave Bing, U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow among others took part in the Whole Foods Market Midtown ceremony on May 14th.

“Too often we focus on the negative things that that are happening in our city. Today is a positive reckoning that there are people who believe in the city of Detroit and its resurgence,” Bing said.

The Austin, Texas-based retailer plans to open a 20,000-square-foot supermarket with about 75 employees that will fill a void in the area as the residents in the Midtown area have few places to buy fresh fruit, vegetables and produce.
