“Red Dawn” Blows Up Detroit

(WXYZ) – The remake of “Red Dawn,” a cold war era film where the United State is invaded by the Soviet Union, has attracted the son of one of Hollywood’s biggest names.

Connor Cruise, the son of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, has signed on to play Daryl Bates. In the original, Daryl was the son of the town’s mayor and the student body president at his high school. The role was played by Darren Dalton. This isn’t Cruise’s first film role. The teen played a younger version of Will Smith’s character in last year’s “Seven Pounds.”

A number of other key roles have also been cast in the remake. Josh Hutcherson has signed on to play the role of Robert, which was played by C. Thomas Howell in the original. Hutcherson previously appeared in “Journey to the Center of the Earth” and “Bridge to Terabithia.”

Isabel Lucas will take over the role of Erica from Lea Thompson. Lucas previously appeared in “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.” Edwin Hodge has also signed on to the movie. He will play Danny. The role was previously played by Brad Savage. Hodge has also appeared in “Invasion” and the TV series “Jack and Bobby.”

These new cast members join Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki. They will all undergo military training before shooting begins. Kurt Russell is also in talks to star in the movie.

Once filming begins, the actors will be spending a lot of time in Michigan. The publicist for “Red Dawn” says the movie will film in Downtown Detroit, Pontiac, Royal Oak, Mount Clemens, Harper Woods and a recreation center in Highland Park. A number of other locations are still being nailed down.

If you’re interested in appearing in the movie, producers are holding a casting call for extras. It will be Saturday, August 15, at the Ridgeline Players in Troy. That’s at 205 West Long Lake. It will run from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. You can also send producers an e-mail with your name, age, height, weight, relevant experience, complete contact information and a recent picture. Filming will run from September through December.

Anyone who attends the casting call will have to fill out a brief information sheet and have two pictures taken. All of the positions are paid, with opportunities ranging from several days to several weeks of work. You must be 18 or older.
