DETROIT – Two Mumford students walking home after classes have been injured following a shooting just off campus. We’re told it happened after a fight broke out.
Police and DPS officials are being very tight lipped with details, but students at Mumford High School tell FOX 2 this shooting may have been sparked by a fight that happened at a party over the summer. This is the first day of school, so it is the first time that many of these students may have actually seen each other.
Apparently, a 16-year-old boy and another Mumford student got into an argument outside of the school. At some point, someone pulled out a gun and shot the 16-year-old, striking him in the buttocks. One of the bullets ended up hitting a 14-year-old girl, who was just walking home from school. She was grazed in the face.
The 16-year-old’s brother tells FOX 2 he was actually excited about the first day of school until this whole nightmare happened. Watch Alexis Wiley’s video report to hear his comments.
