The holidays are quickly approaching, and unfortunately one out of every eight people in Michigan will need emergency help getting food this year. WXYZ-TV and Art Van Furniture have teamed up once again to make a difference in the fight against hunger in Metro Detroit.

“Together We Can” is a mission to support the Gleaners Community Food Bank.

Starting Sunday, donations of canned goods and non perishable food items can be dropped off at any of the 17 Art Van Furniture locations throughout Metro Detroit.

The two entities will each own 50 percent of each Michael Jackson project, sharing equally in the cost of creating, developing, building and producing the projects and in the profits from each project. The Estate of Michael Jackson will also receive royalty payments on various aspects of its intellectual property used in the Michael Jackson projects.

The West Point Leadership and Ethics Conference

Featuring the Cadet REAL Club of The West Point Simon Center for the Professional Military Ethic

 
We are fast approaching our big day of leadership on October 28, 2011! Get ready for a fast-paced day of hard work and leadership activities with the Cadets from the United States Military Academy, at West Point, NY. Our Keynote Speaker is Mr. Roy S. Roberts, Detroit Public Schools. Our Master of Ceremony for the event is Mr. Malcolm Maddox, ABC7 WXYZ TV. Students are asked to dress in flexible and modest business casual, since many activities are subject to be photographed or filmed. Students may have to participate in floorwork and some sustained walking.
 

This is a community outreach event for 11th graders and their school escorts. Registration will open on September 23, 2011. Students have the opportunity for awards or scholarships. Details to follow for participating schools and organizations.

Each school may nominate up to four students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrated leadership potential. The school should provide a staff and faculty chaperone who can participate in the educators’ workshop and provide transportation to the event for the four students. The conference is designed to help our young leaders embrace ethical development as a foundation of leadership and to allow them an opportunity to practice their leadership skills.

Student delegates will be among other eleventh-graders of exemplary leadership skills and talents. The conference sponsors will present awards for recognized groups and individuals.
 

There is no charge for the delegates, except for this:

 
1.) demonstrate commitment to learn and to share that learning with other conference student delegates and with your peers, neighbors, teachers and families upon return to your schools and;

2.) To embrace the spirit of honor, ethics, integrity, respect, competence and character, which is foundational to leadership and especially as they apply to national challenges (i.e.: civility, diversity, communications, education and character) both during and after the conference.

Educators attending as chaperones will enjoy a workshop by law and ethics expert, Mr. E. Christopher Johnson, Jr., Esq., Professor of Law at Thomas M. Cooley Law School. The educators will have an opportunity to review and exchange best practices in “leadership and ethics” and how they help meet the leadership challenges of our nation.”
