wchb breast cancer ladyBreast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States.  The chance of a woman having breast cancer during her life is about 1 in 8. The chance of dying from breast cancer is about 1 in 36.  However breast cancer death rates have been going down.  The earlier breast cancer is found, the better.

If you are 40 or older, get a mammogram and breast exam every year and report any breast changes to your doctor right away.  You can help reduce your breast cancer risk by maintaining a healthy weight throughout life, being physically active on a regular basis and limiting alcohol intake.

Black women are less likely than white women to get breast cancer, yet have a higher breast cancer death rate. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among black women and is the leading cause of cancer death for black women aged 45–64 years. The breast cancer death rate for women aged 45–64 years was 60% higher for black women than white women.
