LIVONIA, Mich. (WJBK) -On Wednesday, we told you the story about how a contract for one of Sheriff Benny Napoleon’s political hacks was shot down by a committee of the Wayne County Commission.
Now we have a story about how one of Napoleon’s political hacks almost shot down a horse.Ursula Henry is Napoleon’s gal in charge of legal stuff for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department. She gets paid $120,000, even though the county already employees dozens of other lawyers who could do the same thing.
We’re told she is not a certified law enforcement officer, so what was she doing walking around with a handgun riding police horses?
Wednesday, she showed up for her weekly canter. The officer in charge of the horse stable in Livonia conducted a weapons inspection. According to people in the know, Henry didn’t realize there was still a bullet in her handgun’s chamber and she discharged it in the stable. Thankfully no human or horse was injured.
A sheriff’s spokesperson said the matter is under review, but no one could tell us why Henry had a gun in the first place, why we are paying her when the department is running a $30 million deficit or why she has been driving around in a Cadillac seized in a drug raid without county permission.
This whole episode might be funny if this were Mayberry, North Carolina. However, this isn’t Mayberry. This is Wayne County. It’s time we started running it like a big city.
