Featuring pigs, barbeque ribs, dancing, shouting, wailing, boxing rings and even a disco ball, the culture of “traditional” home-goings in the Black community is coming to reality television.
“These are families who have lost loved ones. So there is never any disrespect with these type of homegoing celebrations,” said John Beckwith Jr., CEO of the Golden Gate Funeral Home.
The show follows the funeral home, which has been in business for over 30 years, as it fulfills the family’s last wishes for their loved ones. According to Beckwith, each service can cost up to $40,000.
“Best Funeral Ever” aired Sunday, Jan. 6 at 10 p.m. on TLC.
