Well-known local attorney Richard Bernstein is closer to coming home from a Manhattan visit gone bad. He was discharged Monday after 10 weeks at Mt. Sinai Hospital.
Bernstien, a personal injury lawyer at a firm founded by his dad (“Call Sam”), is recovering from a broken hip and other injuries caused by a speeding cyclist as the blind Farmington Hills litigator jogged in Central Park. He’ll stay in New York for physical therapy, Crain’s Detroit Business reports.
He “was hit and face-planted by a cyclist going downhill at about 35 mph –10 mph above the posted limit,” writes reporter Ryan Kelly, who spoke to the 38-year-old attorney.
Bernstein is staying at the New York Palace Hotel on Madison Avenue while undergoing outpatient rehabilitation at Mt. Sinai.
His goal, he told Kelly, is to “get back into the shape [I was] in before the accident.”
