From WXYZ – The Postal service wants to remind tax payers to mail early on tax day – April 17 – because offices around the country will not have extended hours this year.
The Internal Revenue Service is also offering up advice to taxpayers this year. If you mail a paper return you should use the peel-off label. That way you can make any necessary corrections right on the label.
If you do not have a peel-off label to put on your return, fill in all requested information and include your social security number.
Do not send cash if you owe the government money. Always use a check or certified money order.
If you itemize, you may be able to deduct the convenience fee charged for paying individual income taxes with a credit or debit card as a miscellaneous itemized deduction on Form 1040.
Do not staple your payment to your tax form. If you pay by check or money order address it to the “United States Treasury.”
