Developers hope the state will take a gamble on a new project that would bring several more casinos to the area. They want to build eight new casinos all together. Five of the sites are in Metro Detroit.
The proposed locations include the site of the Pontchartrain Hotel, the Renaissance Center, the Pontiac Silverdome, Romulus near Vining and Wicks Roads and in Clinton Township near Hall Road and Gratiot.
According to the Detroit Free Press, the group is expected to go to the Board of Canvassers this week to ask permission to start campaigning. They need more than 322-thousand signatures to get the issue on the ballot.
The developers say the money from the casinos would go to public safety, schools and roads. Opponents of the plan say we have enough casinos already.
