The U.S. Coast Guard has dealt Ambassador Bridge owner Manuel (Matty) Moroun a major setback in his hopes to build a second bridge, telling him it will not consider his application for a permit as long as he remains in conflict with the City of Detroit over rights to land near the bridge site.
Without a Coast Guard permit, Moroun cannot go forward with his hoped-for second span parallel to the Ambassador Bridge.
In a letter dated today to Dan Stamper, president of Moroun’s Detroit International Bridge Co., Coast Guard bridge program administrator Hala Elgaaly wrote that she was returning Moroun’s application for a permit to the bridge company as incomplete. The Free Press obtained a copy of the letter.
