‘King Day At The Dome’ with Mildred Gaddis

Mildred Gaddis and Bud Ferillo

LIVE from Columbia, South Carolina on MLK Day 2011

Charles “Bud” Ferillo, Producer and Public Relations of the documentary film Corridor of Shame. Struggling with the effects of reduced funding from the State of South Carolina in recent years and declining support from local governments due to plant closings and diminishing tax bases, these school districts are hard pressed to provide a minimally adequate education to their students.

There are 36 plaintiff school districts in the Abbeville case. Of those, eight are representative plaintiffs in the suit.

This documentary is the story of their extraordinary struggle to seek funding for an adequate education in rural South Carolina and the growing support for their cause.

“CORRIDOR OF SHAME: the neglect of South Carolina’s rural schools” is dedicated to the children of South Carolina’s I-95 corridor. It was produced and directed by Bud Ferillo. John S. Rainey is Executive Producer.

“It takes a Village”

Chris and Veronia Sullivan, brother and sister fighting for a cause. Chris is a member of Youth and College chapter of NAACP a Midland Tech and youngest receipt to receive the Mayor’s Key to the City. Veronica has participated in the march since its beginning in 2000. Their mother, Senorita is Ombudsman for the city of Columbia. They feel that the confederate flag belongs in a museum not on display at government offices. South Carolina is one of two states, the other being Mississippi to display the confederate flag at various government buildings.

FROM ‘KING DAY AT THE DOME’ OFFICIAL FACEBOOK PAGE: The purpose of this plan is bring young people to King Day at the Dome on January 19, 2009. This march and rally is designed to inform the citizens of this state and nation about the ignorant and idiotic policies of the state government of the confederate flag flying on the state house grounds, disparities in education and healthcare among communities of color and lack of economic opportunity.

Mobilization Plan:
Our plan consists of three parts will be broken up into three parts: educational, internet and civic engagement. We believe that young people have to be first educated about why we gather on King Day before we ask them to give up their time to come. We must be able to communicate effectively, quickly and cheaply through the internet and we need to engage young people on current issues.

This is a renewed call to remove the battle flag, seen by some as a symbol of hate and by others as a form of heritage – from state grounds.

Mildred Gaddis took her no nonsense approach to deliver the characteristic, hard-hitting interviews and reports she is celebrated for. As the only radio outlet with a place at the rallies, WCHBNewsDetroit.com is confident that Gaddis will leave no stone unturned in her special live coverage from Columbia, South Carolina.
